DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES
ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

Office of Refugee Ressettlement would like to inform the Albanian American Women’s Organization “Motrat Qiriazi” (AAWO) that the Financial Assistance Award for FFY 2003 Ethnic Community Self-Help program has been continued.

We are pleased to assist AAWO in achieving its goal of integrating newly arrived Albanian women refugees and their families who have settled in the tri-state area (New York, Connecticut and New Jersey) into the social, economic and cultural fabric of the United States.

ORR also aims to support AAWO to continue strengthening its organizational capacity to better address the pressing need for information, linkages, psychological, social and economic support for newly arrived refugee women from Kosova, as well as the larger number of Albanian women and their families who have settled in the tri-state area in the last five years as refugees or immigrants coming from Albania, Kosova, Macedonia and Montenegro.

THE NEW YORK FOUNDATION

The New York Foundation is proud to support the Albanian American Women’s Organization.

The Foundation supports groups in New York City that are working on problems of urgent concern to residents of disadvantaged communities and neighborhoods. We are particularly interested in start-up grants to new, untested programs that have few other sources of support.

We are enthusiastic admirers of the resilience and energy of New York’s neighborhoods. We believe the vitality of its neighborhoods is the city’s greatest resource.

THE VAN AMERINGEN FOUNDATION

The van Ameringen Foundation is a private grantmaking foundation, located in New York City and active principally in metropolitan New York and Philadelphia. The Foundation was established by Arnold Louis van Ameringen in 1950 and received its assets from him during his lifetime and from his estate following his death in 1966, and from his widow Hedwig van Ameringen during her lifetime and upon her death in 1996.

From its beginning the Foundation has sought to stimulate prevention, education, and direct care in the mental-health field with an emphasis on those individuals and populations having an impoverished background and few opportunities, for whom appropriate intervention would produce positive change.
