Mirela Rugova AAWO ‘Motrat Qiriazi Teacher of the Year 2025
My name is Mirela Rugova, and I am a seventh-grade mathematics teacher at PS 83 Donald Hertz in District 11 of the Bronx. My passion for education ignited at a young age, inspired by my parents, who showed unwavering dedication and enthusiasm for teaching in Albania. With over twelve years of experience in the field, I hold a master’s degree in mathematics education for grades 7-12.
I am also a lifelong learner and throughout all these years, have completed various professional development courses in mathematics and general education. These courses enable me to implement effective teaching practices in my classroom and enhance my students’ learning experiences.
As a teacher, I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment where every student has a voice. I strive to foster a positive and engaging classroom culture that encourages students to feel comfortable taking risks and exploring their ideas in mathematics.
